Each of the suspension pistons is intended to be protected from g dust and water by a flexible "rubber" boot.

These covers deteriorate over time and are often found to be severely damaged or even completely missing.

The covers consist of two parts: the main "concertina" section, capped with a "top hat", and is held in place by the two hose clamps.
